A box-type substation, also known as a prefabricated substation, is a factory-built assembly that integrates high-voltage switchgear, power transformer, low-voltage switchgear, energy-metering equipment, reactive-power compensation devices, auxiliary equipment and interconnections inside a single metallic or non-metallic enclosure. It offers small footprint, minimal land use, the possibility of siting close to the load center, easy transport, simple installation and short energization time.
